I am a Thermostat not a Thermometer
A Thermometer only reflects the atmosphere or situation of issues that exist at a time. Thermometers reflects the situation, it simply re-echoes what the situation is. A thermostat on the other hand changes the atmosphere or situation to what it wants it to be. In life there are two kinds of people and they are those that are thermostat or the ones that are thermometers. Are you the one that complains about situations around you or are you the one that takes actions to change things. And this does not necessarily mean these actions must be big actions on a national scale but things that you can change in your life. God has given us the ability the change things around us especially with our lives, in fact changes should start with you. You should declare to yourself – I am thermostat not a thermometer.
A thermometer is a chronic complainer, a thermostat was made to regulate the environment. As believer you are not supposed to adapt to the environment, you have the capacity to change things. The Bible in 2Cor 10:3 explains to us that “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:” This tells us we need to know that spiritual realities changes things in the physical. We need to understand this fact as believers, the spiritual controls the natural. The spiritual is eternal, it does not change. We merely adjust the physical to align to the spiritual. At the crux of this topic is the understanding of the fact the spiritual control the physical. There are natural ways to get results but time and time again if you look deeply, you will realize that results not aligning will the spiritual will not the whole or complete.
The bible goes on to say for in 2Cor 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”. We understand from the bible that we have weapons at our disposal that changes things, these weapons are not natural. They are not natural fighting or lobbying or cajoling that we do sometimes to get things to change but these spiritual weapons are mighty and give us complete victory! Hallelujah. In warfare, depending on your enemy you will determine what sort of weapon to use. In the spiritual you have an array of weapons that you can use to change things in your life and your environment but more importantly you need to know that you have weapons and they are mighty for pulling things down and changing situations.
What weapons do we then use to change things? The bible in Ephesians 6 from verse 12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
The passage in verse 18 says, we should pray always with all prayer. These are the weapons at our disposal. We pray always to change things. While acting is good and very important but action cannot take away the essence of prayer. Prayer blended with action will get you the desired result, it is called prayerful action. Some issues are not just solved by mere action. Prayer always works. Don’t talk down on prayer because you want to motivate action. Prayer is an invitation of God into a matter and it is unwise to despise the invitation of God to a situation.
Prayer is one of our best weapons both for our nation and our personal lives. Prayer cannot be subtitled with action. You should prayerfully act to get the best results. The bible in 1st timothy 2:1 it says “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;”. The bible here encourages us to pray, pray for those in authority as their actions in power will affect us as a nation. In 2 Chronicles 2:7 the bible also reiterated the need for prayer, it says “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
In conclusion, Prayer is an invitation of God into a situation. It is a major weapon at our disposal to change things in our lives and our society. Prayerful action is key to making result producing actions. In prayer you change things, as a nation we are in dire need of prayers to change situation we experience and we also need prayers as a covering to individuals God is raising to drive change in our society. Whatever change you need in your own life can be gotten in the place of prayer. Start praying today!
